Accent Reduction page has information to encourage those of you with English as a

non-native language to consider therapy to assist with English pronunciation.

Vocal Hygiene Ideas:

1.  use lemon water throughout the day for phlegm management. Either the green bottle type of the fresh lemon are astringent enough to assist in clearing phlegm.  Don't expect to use lemon water one time and think it will clear a large phlegm plug.  That is why I suggest using it throughout the day.

2. use a saline nasal spray (ie AYR) at night prior to lying down in bed.  This keeps your nasopharynx moist through the night when you might be breathing through your mouth and also assists with reducing phlegm production.

3. don't use coffee or caffeine drinks.  They dehydrate you.  Do use herbal and decaffeinated teas.

4. use a lilt-like cough with voicing instead of a hard cough to clear your throat

5. drink plenty of water! more than you think you are!

6. stay away from smoke-filled areas
